From Amqui, in the Matapedia Valley, Jean Lauzier was initiated to this art at a relatively young age. In February 1973, as he went to see a competition during the Eastern Quebec Games held in Amqui, he discovered the martial arts. So in the autumn of 1974, at age 10 he decided to register in the Kung Fu classes. After only four years of training, in April 1978, he obtained his black sash, from the hands of his Master. At only 14 years old, he became one of the youngest black belt of all in Eastern Quebec. It goes without saying that he would have never been able to accomplish that without the precious help of his Master, Magella Poirier, for whom he has the utmost respect. "He has shown me everything, by opening the path to me. Thanks to him I have acquired a physical and an inner balance". Sifu Lauzier has achieved various other levels and is working on attaining higher ones. He adds: "My greatest dream is to go to China".
From 1974 to 1982, Sifu Jean Lauzier has participated in more than sixty regional, provincial and national tournaments. He has represented Eastern Quebec in the Quebec Games in Jonquière in 1978. The big challenge of these sport meetings attracted him but he was also driven by the desire to evolve and always improve. He did not disappoint his Sifu, because he won fame almost always in the katas (forms) or in light-contact combats. During this period, he won about forty trophies and medals. In 1982, he left his birthplace region to enter the Canadian Army Forces and then continued his education. From 1982 to 1989, while still practicing his own style, he practiced a few other styles, because he believes there is always something new to learn, whatever the type of martial art one practices.
He returned to the Matapedia Valley in 1989 and taught until 1992. Since the autumn of 1992, he manages the Chisasibi School. After a period of soul searching, he decided to commit to teaching, tap into his experience while trying to go further in his own personal learning development. He asserts: "For me, Kung Fu is more than a simple sport or even more than the art itself; it is a real way of life".
Sifu Lauzier began his training in martial arts in 1974, in the Kenpo style. Then, he was initiated in the Bei Shaolin (Northern Chinese Boxing System) Kung Fu style by his former and actual Master, Magella Poirier, from Amqui, Quebec. During this period (1974-1985), he has participated in many tournaments regional, provincial, national and international tournaments and captured several awards. Although he also practices Chin Na, self defense and other Northern Shaolin styles, he specializes in Shaolin Long Fist (Chang Chuan) Kung Fu. Sifu Lauzier's Master authorized him to take over his school and so he started teaching in Amqui in 1989. Then, Sifu Jean Lauzier moved to Chisasibi in 1992, where he has since managed the Chisasibi Kung Fu school. He teaches to group classes as well as gives private lessons.
